Are Some Books of the Bible not for the Church?

It may have been from Robert Breaker 1st, where I heard some scripture is not for the church.  And now Scottie Clark on Youtube has been preaching this, more on his Facebook page really. And then discovered a website forum I used to participate in has done the same, particularly this article:

The core of this position is that some scripture is written for the Jews, and that such messages lead to a gospel for them which is different than the gospel to the gentiles. This may include the epistle of James and the book of Hebrews, and some of the gospel text where Jesus speaks to the Jews.

And I can understand their frustration as James 1:21 states:

James 1:21 MKJV
Therefore putting aside all filthiness and overflowing of evil, receive in meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls.

Where as Paul states in Ephesians:

Ephesians 2: MKJV
8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God,
9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

The problem here is not 2 separate gospels to different people, Jews and Gentiles, but 2 gospels for 2 different things: the salvation of the spirit verses the salvation of the soul!

Scripture tells us there is no difference between Jew and Gentile!

Gal:3:28: There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

But there is a difference between spirit and soul, and that is what most of the Church is ignorant of.

1 Thess 5: MKJV
23 ¶ And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blamelessly at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If the body and spirit are different, than obviously the soul is different than the spirit as well, according to Paul (from an epistle to gentiles).

Other scriptures discuss the salvation of the soul more clearly, but since those scriptures are contested, I won’t use them yet. But for now, I wish to discuss the distinction of soul and spirit. It will be difficult with my hands tied by this wrong premise but will try.

Man is a triune being. We were made in the image of God. God is triune and so is man.

The word “soul” in the greek is “psuche”, this is where we get the english word psychic. It is often translated: heart (+ -ily), life, mind, soul, + us, + you.

The word “spirit” in the greek is “pneuma”, this is where we get “pneumatic tool” (a tool powered by air). It is often translated: ghost, life, spirit(-ual, -ually), mind.

When Adam sinned, he died spiritually. God had told Adam:

Gen 2: MKJV
17 but you shall not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. For in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

When Adam ate from the tree, did he die physically (in the body)? No. Did his soul die? No, in fact his soul increased:

Gen 3: MKJV
22 ¶ And the LORD God said, Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil…

Therefore, Adam died spiritually. God communicates through the spirit, and when Adam died spiritually, God didn’t “see” him.

Prov 20 KJ21
27  The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of his being.

Gen 3: MKJV
9 ¶ And the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you?

Because Adam sinned, all mankind fell into sin with Adam:

Rom 5: LITV
12 Because of this, even as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death passed to all men, inasmuch as all sinned.

1 Cor 15: YLTV
15:22 for even as in Adam all die…

Now every person is born into sin, spiritually dead:

Psalm 51: MKJV
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Psalm 58: MKJV
3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from the womb…

Eph 2: MKJV
3 among whom we also … were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

When a person accepts Jesus, and the work He has done for them, through His death, burial, and resurrection, they become spiritually saved. They gain eternal life and heaven.

This salvation is not by any work of the believer, it is a gift of God, through Jesus. We need only to accept it.

Eph 2: LITV
8 For by grace you are saved, through faith, and this not of yourselves; it is the gift of God;
9 not of works, that not anyone should boast;

Titus 3: MKJV
5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,

Thus the salvation of the spirit is instant and by grace!

We can also see that our soul still is caught in sin after we are saved. The Bible tells us, that when we are saved, our sin nature is unemployed:

Rom 6: ALT
6  knowing this, that our former person was crucified together [with Him], so that the body of sin shall be made useless [or, pass away], [so that] we [are] no longer to be serving as a slave to sin.

Rom 6: LITV
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be nullified, so that we no longer serve sin.

The work of the Cross has stopped sin in our spirit, but it is not eliminated from our being. Although, we are no longer slaves to sin:

Rom 6: MKJV
17 … you were the slaves of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
18 Then being made free from sin, you became the slaves of righteousness.
19 … for as you have yielded your members as slaves to uncleanness, and to lawless act unto lawless act, even so now yield your members as slaves to righteousness unto holiness.

Your spirit is no longer in bondage to sin, you now have a choice. Choice is your free will, that part which is in your soul. After being saved, you still can choose sin, and can still feels it’s temptation. This is all in the soul.

But there is good news. You can save your soul!

The soul is our mind, will and emotions. And it can be saved!

Earlier I shared James 1:21, let’s look at it again:

James 1:21 MKJV
Therefore putting aside all filthiness and overflowing of evil, receive in meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls.

I know some who don’t believe James yet, so let’s use Paul’s writings a bit. Here is another scripture from Paul about the salvation of the soul with works!:

Philp 2:12 NKJV
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

And its even a process not an instant thing:

Phil 1: MKJV
6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ,

Paul even speaks more of this process here:

Eph 5: MKJV
25 … as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it,
26 that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word,

2 Cor 4: MKJV
16 For this cause we do not faint; but though our outward man perishes, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

So both gospels were written by Paul as well! It is not a Jew or Gentile thing as all men have souls and spirits.

I am not going to go further into the teaching of the salvation of the soul here, I do that here:

The Salvation of the Soul

I have a big problem when someone tells me I cannot use part of the Bible to teach. As scripture say’s otherwise:

2 Tim 3:16: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

Another big issue is Jesus hates the fact that 1 man can tell another man what is scripture and what is not.

Rev 2:15 So you also have those who hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

“Nicolaitanes” means “Victorious over the people; a follower of Nicolaus, a heretic”. It comes from the familiar word “nike”, which is popular in our day. The meaning can be better seen in the phrase: “to conquer the laity” (from “nikos – to conquer”; and “laos” – where our word “laity” comes from). Laity means “the people, or the public”.

For those not educated in “religion”, many churches are separated into 2 groups of people: ministers (or priests) and laity (regular people). And this system is not Biblical and is wrong.

When someone claims they have the special knowledge of having more of God’s word known to them from other texts, or have the knowledge that some of the Bible is not scripture, this gives them power over the people of God. This is a sin. Because every believer is a priest unto God.

The sin of Gnosticism and the Laity keeps people from reading and believing the Bible.

Gnosticism states one must have special knowledge to understand scripture. There are different forms of this today. One common one, especially amongst denominationalism is education. Many state that the common man cannot understand scripture unless he goes to college.

This is bogus, I am not sure where I learned the following, it may have been from Watchman Nee. In his book “The Normal Christian Life” he discusses the 2 works of the cross. But I think Nee states that in college the deep courses/classes deal with Romans and the work of the cross. But yet, that knowledge should be the standard of the normal christian. Not the educated elite.

Telling me or anyone that I cannot use James or the book of Hebrews falls into Gnosticism or the Doctrine of the Nicolaitins!

I have seen this on the opposite spectrum. I have people tell me Paul is a false apostle and none of his writings are scripture!

One person tells me Pauls’s writings are scripture and the others are not, another tells me Paul’s writings are false and the rest is true! Both sides are the same sin. The Doctrine of the Nicolaitins!

Now what are we to do? Are we to ignore Scottie Clark or Robert Breaker or anyone else who teaches this error? I speak on this on my Tenets page:

Statements of Faith

It is my belief, that the people and church of God, in some capacity, in most cases, seek after His truth. During the course of history, the church became divided. It is my belief that you can find pieces of truth from perhaps every denomination and movement of God. I like to say, “A broken clock is right twice a day.” Therefore, I try to see truth even where God has used those people whom I even disagree with. It is the pride of man that often separates men and keeps them from seeing the work of God in others. As an example, how I have dealt with my greatest spiritual father, Watchman Nee, is a good example of separating out what he mixed into God’s revelations.

Watchman Nee was a very balanced teacher, except when it came to entertainment. He condemns any entertainment that has any chance involved. He believes entertainment or games should have skill only. He even condemned the mixture of skill and chance. Any game with cards or dice, he would condemn. Playing games like UNO or even children’s games like CandyLand, would be wrong. Why did he take this stance? Because his own mother was addicted to gambling. From the great pain of gambling, he failed to see a balance in entertainment. Therefore, I take out his imbalances. I have done the same from other ministers: Randy Shankle, Kenneth Hagin, and so on. I have even gleaned some truth from the Catholic church…

Many Christians are so quick to judge and condemn; but if we repent of pride, we can easily glean truth from people who have missed God in some part.

On the other side of the scale, we ought not to stand on doctrine just because others we agree with believe it as such. We shouldn’t build doctrine from tradition nor refuse to listen to other doctrines because we or our group does not. Doctrines should be based on scripture alone.

I am fully convinced, I would not be here today, if I did not humble myself, and accept truth from people and groups I disagreed with. A filter is a great thing! Filter everything through God’s word.

If our understanding comes against God’s word, then it is our understanding that must be changed. This is true with interpretations of scripture. If we have an interpretation of a scripture which contradicts another scripture, then we have interpreted the Bible wrong.

I was recently in a Christian Facebook Group where someone was teaching that salvation can’t be lost. Not at all. I showed him the scripture that showed that some are twice dead (Jude 1:12), someone can’t be twice dead unless they were Born Again, and then died spiritually again. Rather than debunk my teaching, he denounced the scripture!

That is dangerous, by the way, I quit that Facebook Group, I wasn’t gonna be a part of something where the administration denounced scripture! Therefore, to find God’s perfect will, we must always seek to find the truth without contradicting any scripture.

Lastly, I will end with another prayer I been using the last year or so, based on the following scriptures:

Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

James 1:21 Therefore putting aside all filthiness and overflowing of evil, receive in meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls.

Eph 5:26 that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word,

Isa 1:19 If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land;

“Lord, please open the eyes of my understanding, that I may know your word, your ways, and your truth. Correct my errors, that I may walk in your ways more accurately, and not only to teach them to others, but to walk in them myself. I receive with meekness the engrafted word of God to save my soul, and to wash me with the water of the word, so that I may be willing and obedient to eat the fruit of the land.”

I hope this has been a blessing to you.
