Sept (23, or some other projected dates) 2017 Signs

A little over a month ago, I heard the buzz about the supposed signs in the stars happening this September which supposedly will fulfill Rev 12.

Lets start with detailing these things. I will start with Rev 12.

Revelation 12
1 ¶ And there appeared a great sign in the heavens, a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon was under her feet, and a crown of twelve stars on her head,
2 and having a babe in womb, she cries, being in travail, having been distressed to bear.
3 And another sign was seen in the heavens. And behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads!
4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and cast them onto the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman being about to bear, so that when she bears he might devour her child.
5 And she bore a son, a male, who is going to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her child was caught up to God and to His throne.
6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she had a place prepared by God, so that they might nourish her there a thousand, two hundred and sixty days.

According to many sources, there will be some interesting celestial events occurring in space. On September 23, 2017 the sun will be in the zodiac constellation Virgo—“a woman clothed with the sun”. The moon will be at the feet of Virgo—“with the moon under her feet”. The ‘nine’ stars of the zodiac constellation Leo, plus three planets (Mercury, Venus, and Mars), will be at the head of Virgo—“on her head a crown of twelve stars”. The planet Jupiter will be in the center of Virgo, and as the weeks pass after September 23 Jupiter will exit Virgo to the east, past her feet, so to speak—“She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth”. Jupiter is the largest of the planets, the “king” of the planets, so to speak—“She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod”.

When I 1st heard this, I was skeptical, as my 1st reaction was, were these constellations observed in ancient times? Were these constellations recognized by God or the Jews? It seemed a bit to “extra-Biblical” in a specific way, as I do believe God uses the stars as signs, but with this much specifics?

So I have been looking into this, what people are preaching and prophesying, and whether these events are true. 1st off some make this event rare but it is more common than that.

Answers in Genesis, a respectable Christian organization is not sold on these events and says:

First, there is nothing particularly unusual about the sun appearing in the constellation Virgo. As we orbit the sun each year, the sun appears to move through the 12 constellations of the zodiac, spending about a month in each one. The month that the sun appears in Virgo is around the time of the autumnal equinox, from mid-September through late October. Nor is it unusual to find the moon near the feet of Virgo. The moon takes 27 1/3 days to orbit the earth with respect to the stars. Therefore, for a day or two each month, the moon appears near the feet of Virgo. (I keep mentioning the feet of Virgo. …Therefore, for a day or two each September or October, the sun appears in Virgo with the moon at her feet, so this is not that remarkable.

It was more than 15 years ago that I first heard the suggestion that this annual event might be a fulfillment of Revelation 12 in some particular year. Since then, interest in this idea has increased, with some people speculating or even predicting that “this is the year,” only to forget about it when nothing significant transpired before moving on to the next year’s occurrence. However, this year’s event has attracted much more attention than previously, so why is this year so different? One possibility is the addition of Jupiter to the mix. Some people claim that this year Jupiter will be near what is supposed to be the womb of Virgo, so it represents the child that the woman is about to give birth to. Jupiter takes nearly 12 years to orbit the sun, so this is the period with which Jupiter moves through the zodiacal constellations, spending about a year in each one. In fact, I first saw Jupiter when it was close to Virgo in 1969—I have watched Jupiter pass through four complete orbits since. This means that Jupiter appears in the part of Virgo corresponding to her womb, along with the sun in Virgo and the moon at her feet for a day or two every 12 years or so…

Another factor is the addition of the three naked-eye planets in Leo, above the head of Virgo. The videos promoting this supposed sign claim that the constellation Leo has nine stars, so the addition of these three “wandering stars” brings the total number of stars in Leo, above the head of Virgo, to 12, with the 12 stars forming the crown of the woman in the sky, according to Revelation 12:1. Except that Leo has more than nine stars. Where did the people touting this supposed fulfillment of prophecy get the idea that Leo has nine stars? Every presentation of the September 23 event that I have seen has used the popular Stellarium software package to illustrate the events of September 23. Sure enough, the lines connecting the stars of Leo into an outline of a lion include nine stars. However, even the Stellarium display shows other stars in Leo that are not connected by the lines. And different depictions of Leo connect different numbers of stars. For instance, the monthly star chart in the April 2017 issue of Sky and Telescope magazine (pp. 42–43) connects 13 stars with lines.

I will refer you also to this article, by a scientific non-christian source sharing similar problems.

But some are throwing in readings from the book of Enoch as well as the pyramids of Egypt.

I refuse to use The Book of Enoch because it is NOT in the Bible. It is not part of scripture. And since when does God use man made objects as divine great signs?

Now don’t get me wrong, since seeing these things in more light, I still maintain a “maybe” stance. But I see no “date” as authoritative, especially since we shall not know the date of the rapture. However we can know the date of His 2nd coming! Another reason to believe in a pre-tribulation rapture!

The Bible presents a day we can’t know and a day we can know. Matthew 25:13 says Jesus will return at an unknown time, while Revelation 12:6 says the Jews will have to wait 1,260 days for the Lord to return. The 1,260 days begins when the Antichrist stands in the Temple and declares himself to be God (Matt. 24:15-21, 2 Thess. 2:4) This event will take place at the mid-point of the seven year Tribulation (Dan 9:27). The Antichrist has authority to rule for 42 months, which is 1,260 days (Rev. 13:4) and will be destroyed by Jesus at His second coming (Rev. 19:20, 2 Thess. 2:8). The known and unknown days must happen at different times, meaning they are two separate events.

However, I do believe that it is likely Jesus will rapture those ready this year, as we can know the season.

Luke 21:7 And they asked Him, saying, Teacher, but when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign when these things are about to take place?
9 But when you hear of wars and disturbances, do not be terrified, for all these things must first occur, but the end is not at once.
10 And He said to them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
11 And great earthquakes shall be in different places, and famines and plagues. And there shall be terrors and great signs from Heaven.
29 ¶ And He spoke a parable to them: Behold the fig-tree and all the trees.
30 Now when they sprout leaves, seeing it you will know that summer is now near.
31 So also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.
32 Truly I say to you, This generation shall not pass away until all these things are fulfilled.
36 Watch therefore, praying in every season that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things which shall occur, and to stand before the Son of man.

(I recommend most of that chapter.)

I believe the times and seasons for this are upon us. I believe in signs in the stars, I just don’t believe in 1 specific one with a date! Are we to look to a specific earthquake? Or a date for a certain quake? No! And where is this sign…

Rev 12:3 And another sign was seen in the heavens. And behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads!

I don’t see anyone prophesying this sign with constellations.

I am not here to poo-poo on the idea of the rapture coming this year. It may happen, and I believe it likely, just not on any of these dates proposed because of the celestial events.

I found an article that defends the Rev 12 sign against it’s opponents, and it appears that the opponents have not taken the evidence seriously, and that’s a shame, because people, including me believe they had.

It is now claimed that any supposed other times these occurrences have been happening more frequently are not true. I will let teh article speak for itself. Have a gander here:

I also have discovered an even more interesting astrological sign coinciding with the ones discussed. A comet enters Virgo at teh same time Jupiter does. This comet came from Leo. Read about it here:
